The Afterlife

You may be wondering, what happens when my character dies? Do I have to start all over with a fresh character? NO! Instead, you go into the afterlife as a semi-corporeal spirit! This way, even in death, you will not lose your progress! You even have the opportunity to be wished back to life using the Philosopher's Stone, or even to ascend to godhood! This will all be explained below, but here, we will break down the things to know about living after you die.

There are TWO destinations!

  • The Pure World- Typically referred to as "Heaven" in the Common Tongue, this is the automatic destination of Seraphs upon death and anyone else who meets its criteria. It consists of a massive city surrounded by lush forests and rolling hills. A truly beautiful place to end up, but it is not the end of your progress. Those who go to Heaven gain the unique opportunity to learn "Pure Magic". This type of magic is defined in the Divine Section of the Magic system.

  • The Underworld- Typically referred to as "Hell" in the Common Tongue, this is the automatic destinations of Demons or others who meet the requirements. While it is described by the church as being a place of eternal damnation and punishment, it is not that far from the Pure World, other than its appearance, which is a large city surrounding a large castle all of which is surrounded by a dense, dead forest. There is no sun, but a large ball of magma that lights the dim place. It is also the only place one can learn "Hell Magic". This type of magic is defined in the Divine Section of the Magic system.

These places are only reachable by gods/goddesses or spirits! Spirits are defined below, we will worry about deities later.

  • Spirit- The form taken once one passes from the Overworld. This form isn't stable enough to stay in the physical plain for long, so one can only be there for 2 topics at a time before going into a rest period of 4 topics in your home world ( the ones above)

The criteria to get into the Pure World and the Underworld are defined by your sins, and which deity you venerate. While each god and goddess has their own tenets, violating the ones held by your patron is considered a sin. Each sin builds up in a point system, and once one gains enough points they are damned to the Underworld.

0-10 Points: You are practically a Saint in your deity's name, and are guaranteed a place in their palace in the Pure World.

11-30 Points: You've made some poor choices, but haven't we all? Your deity is likely to forgive you at this stage, and you'll be allowed into the Pure World regardless.

31-50 Points: Well, you aren't exactly the model citizen, are you? You've probably broken more rules than you can even remember, and while your deity is probably not terribly interested in having you around, you'll still be allowed into the Pure World so long as you show remorse.

51-70 Points: You've committed enough sins at this point to be sentenced to the Underworld. You might show remorse at this stage, and you might not. That's up to you, but the truth is that you'll probably be a bit too late with it.

71-90 Points: You kicked a puppy, didn't you? Honestly, there's not much worse it could get for you, and you've been completely unrepentant. Hopefully you can find someone else who won't shirk away at the aura of pure sin that you give off.

91-100 Points: You're literally Hitler. There is absolutely no way that you could possibly be allowed out at this point, and the Demons in charge of the place are going to have fun with you. No two ways about it, you are the worst of the worst. Have fun!

It should be noted that Seraphs and Demons are incapable of sin, and thus are exempt from this list. This is because they are considered directly related to Nytos' will, and are immediately placed in the Pure World and the Underworld respectively upon death, due to unique positions they hold there.

Godhood

To become a divine being, or Deity, one must first die. Once death has been achieved, you are granted a much more powerful body to help you survive in the different environments in the afterlife. Once one has transitioned past being a spirit, into true divinity, you have attained a body far different than the one you held on the mortal plane.

Divine Bodies- When you achieve divinity, you give up your old body and gain a new, more powerful one in return. (This is achieved at Tier X-2) This means that you lose your previous race and become known as purely a "Divine". (This does not change your appearance or current abilities/weapons/equipment.) Divine's have an enhanced healing ability, allowing for near instantaneous healing, though mortal wounds still take two posts to heal fully. While you might be a divine, you aren't invincible, nor are you unkillable. Killing a divine is certainly possible, but it is equally difficult due to the massive amounts of strength they have and their regenerative healing factor.

Divines have the ability to travel freely between the mortal and immortal plane's though they are unable to bring a mortal to the immortal plane, (Except through death).

Now, you might ask, "What happens when I die as a Divine?" This is a good question, and we have a good answer for you! You go into a "refractory period" where you cannot leave the afterlife for 5 topics, of at least 5 posts a piece. After which, you are rejuvenated and able to go back to being a badass again!

Equipment

So, you might be wondering what happens to your precious gear, the weapons, armor, and knickknacks you've built up over the course of your adventure. Well, you see, when you die the only thing that moves on is your soul. In other words, your corpse, along with that weird collection of elf ears you've been saving over the years, doesn't come with you.

The only exceptions to this ruling are Mythic Artifacts, as they are bound directly to the souls of the ones who find them with the sole exception of the Philosopher's Stone. If you want your gear back, you can definitely get it back next time you visit the Living World, but you will need to spend the same amount of gold as you did initially to buy it again, and that's not even taking into account the thought of another player looting you!

If, by some chance, another player character ran off with your favorite undies, the only way to get them back is by taking them. Whether this is by force, or through diplomacy, we don't care, but it has to be spoken about with the player in question. If push comes to shove, you can always pay him/her with any gold you have.

Oh, by the way, gold resets too. Guess when they said that money is materialistic and doesn't matter in the afterlife, they were right!
