Open Hand, or Closed Fist? (Private, Heimdal and Lux)

Post by Beleg on Wed Feb 14, 2018 6:36 pm

A message had been sent from Ridbrad, and the servants of the castle were scurrying to and fro as the normal court of nobles stood in their places before the throne and complained. While they DID have a right to be there it was certainly not the time, as the letter, written in a very formal, to the point manner by King Ruzzoll, had requested an audience with both the King and the Knight-Commander of Elagrid to answer for a few indiscretions. The person that was on his way, however, was someone that was not very amused by the current situation, and the throne room would fall silent as the massive doors would slam open and a figure in black would storm in.

The spurs and white belt would immediately show that the person was a knight, and his cloak was marked with the insignia of the Knight-Commander of Ridbrad. Icy blue eyes flashed with anger, and medium-length black hair swished about a face that would hacve made several of the noblewomen present swoon had it not been marred with fury. Those that had any knowledge, of either history or the current political state of the world, would recognize him as Sir Beleg Mahariel, Knight-Commander of Ridbrad, former Senior Knight of Elagrid, and the man who most had believed would take over the Knights of Elagrid from his mentor and former knight, Sir Gaius Tullius. His squire-brother had had that honor, however, and many at the time had been upset by the decision, due to Beleg's popularity. Of course, when he left the country completely it was made public that he had been disillusioned with the king the entire time, and would have turned down the post anyway. Glancing around, the living legend would scoff at the nobles and turn to the king and the man who had replaced him as Gaius' squire. Anyone who had dealt with him before that moment would realize he was in a rare mood.

"While I certainly expected the so-called nobility to barge in on this meeting, the least you could do is keep them quiet." The knight would spit out, his anger making his voice far harsher than his normal lazy timbre. "I'm sure that you've both heard of the...incident in southern Capralorn, yes? I was pleasantly surprised when the Eldertree himself requested that I send a group to assist him with a group of poachers, and was absolutely delighted when he asked if I could send some of our younger squires for their own benefit. You should both understand the significance of such a gesture, and why it would be important for everyone involved to be on their best behavior. Due to their pacifism and neutrality, Capralorn was certainly honoring my Guild in asking this. I am proud to say that two of three groups of poachers were dealt with, however a squad of fully-trained and armored Knights of Elagrid took it upon themselves to "punish" the squires for not staying within their own Kingdom, without even a thought to the fact that they themselves were the last group of poachers illegally trespassing and hunting in Capralorn. Two of the five squires I sent were killed, one was critically injured and is still in a coma despite our healer's efforts, one will never hold a sword again, and the last..."

Beleg grew quiet at this part. It wasn't that his anger had subsided, no...His anger had peaked, and his eyes grew as cold as the north that he had sworn to protect. "Do you understand the dangers faced by those women who become knights? Little Elsa has only seen eleven winters, and was so excited to be chosen for her first quest. I purposefully sent her with two of our best squires because of it, the two who died protecting her. Mentally, she may never recover fully from what was done to her. Physically? She's too young, and might die in childbirth. She refuses to even speak to her knight, who had become like a father figure to her. The healers have been doing their best, but she doesn't wish to eat, and is attempting to starve herself and the unborn child. Her family is a very influential house within Ridbrad, and has been stirring up our own nobility against Elagrid, and King Ruzzoll has been swamped with those wishing for war. Tell me why I shouldn't bring the full might of the Knight's Guild of Ribrad against your Kingdom, Your Majesty? Give me one good reason."

Oh, Beleg was gone, and in his place was the knight that many had dubbed Sir Grimsever, he who brought nothing but death in his wake, and Nytos help them if they did not help him enact justice.

Re: Open Hand, or Closed Fist? (Private, Heimdal and Lux)

Post by Lux on Wed Feb 14, 2018 9:52 pm

In the main hall of the castle in Elagrid sat a very annoyed King. Heimdal had been waiting for the arrival of one irate Seraph and he was not looking forward to this meeting. While the men in question did not speak for the entire kindom and were their own rogue faction within the Knight's Guild, they had managed to hide their true nature from both himself and Lux. One of the men had already been hanged for his crimes, the first to confess. The others were bloodied and missing limbs after a few sessions of punishment from the White Wolf who was standing in the room next to him. When Beleg had entered he listened intently, it would seem the man still lacked common etiquite and respect for authority as he had the last time, though this time was by far the worst since he was visibly upset. Hearing his tale, he was glad that they had gotten things under control on their end before the arrival of the Seraph. Heimdall spoke, "If the nobility would be so kind to leave, this matter does not require your presence." As soon as they shuffled out, Lux would step forward. "Sir Beleg, my apologies,  but one of the offending knights has already hanged for his treason. the other three however are being kept in our hold. I have been administering punishment myself, but I am having them fetched to be turned over to you and the Kingdom of Ridbrad to be dealt with as you and your King see fit. They have been stripped of their ranks and are now serving as prisoners to the state. So, we turn them to you now. Elagrid has no use for traiterous scum." upon finishing his little spill, three men were dragged in. well one walked, the other two had to be dragged. All three were covered in cuts that could almost be described as having been dealt by a massive claw. Though one of them was missing his legs, only having two bloody stumps remaining and the last had no limbs at all and was merely a torso and a head. It was obvious they were all in immense pain, but a  hex placed on their chains kept them from succoming to unconsciousness.

Re: Open Hand, or Closed Fist? (Private, Heimdal and Lux)

Post by Beleg on Wed Feb 14, 2018 10:48 pm

Beleg's gaze never wavered, even as the nobles bitched and moaned about being escorted out by "lowly" guards. Flicking his eyes carefully over to Lux once he began to speak, Beleg's lips drew into a thin smile, one that didn't belong on the face of a being considered divine. The dark smirk only grew as he sensed the men being brought in. Turning around, he watched the one still able to walk carefully, noting that he was the one guilty of the worst crime, according to eyewitness accounts. The other two were, admittedly, unable to go and see trial, as they would have never survived the arduous journey to Ridbrad. Lifting a single finger, a burst of magical energy would ensue and twin bolts of light would appear out of each of their skulls, as if shot from a bow. Allowing his arm to fall just as the two slumped over dead, Beleg walked over to the last one as the guards backed away. To his credit, he managed not to piss himself, but the sneer was completely unnecessary.

Leaning in to his ear, Beleg would begin speaking in the Elder Tongue, something the young man would not understand but would instead rattle him, as it simply showed him that he was not dealing with anything remotely human. Tell me. Do you want to join your brothers now, or later? Ancient law dictates that you pay the family, whether in gold or blood, and they have demanded the latter. While we could give you a trial, there is only one verdict. Tell me, would you like to die now, or later?"

Stepping back, Beleg watched the fear in his eyes with an almost sadistic pleasure before reaching out to pat the man on the cheek. The unexpected gesture immediately became an expected one when the hand grabbed the back of his head and slammed his face into the knight's knee. Oh, he didn't put even a fraction of his strength into it, given that he didn't want to kill him without Elsa seeing justice done, but it snapped his jaw in half and shattered his nose regardless. Amidst the moans of pain, Beleg turned back around to address the King and his fellow Knight-Commander. "I apologize for the blood on the floor, but they would not have survived the trip to Saridel. As it stands, I am not necessarily going straight back myself, although I do have a small entourage that will escort this pitiful wretch back for proper sentencing."

The Seraph watched the king carefully. He knew Heimdal had an issue with his fairly casual behavior before, and seemed to have had an issue with it again today. His use of the Elder Tongue, and the way it flowed naturally from his vocal chords would already be a heavy hint that the other man needed to back down, as even the eldest scholars in the Vatican were incapable of speaking it in more than a halting manner. However, it would certainly not do for this to continue.

"Your Majesty, I would like to ask you something. Why is it that you believe that you have authority over me? Why should you command my respect?" This was not spoken in the same abrasive manner as before, surprisingly. This was spoken in a soft, honest manner, each word weighed and calculated. It would be clear that there was no insult intended. It was simply to make Heimdal think, and give as clear and honest of an answer as possible.

Spells Used:
Name: Archangel’s Bow
Type: Light
Rank: S rank
Description: By pointing to fingers at an object a beam of light in the shape of arrow will be shot at a speed that is a blur to the naked eye. Due to the element of light the arrow is so fast that most cannot even comprehend it being shot. The arrow will only deal that of an A rank in damage due to how fast that it travels, this is still strong enough to pierce threw most armor and can easily rip right through a person that has no armor. The arrows will burn the wounds though so a person will not bleed out but they will feel the pain of a 3rd degree burn around these area. Noah can only fire off 2 arrows a post.

Heimdall would watch as the Seraph dealt with his new prisoners. The guards present immediately began to clean up the mess made by the two deaths and the one with the current prisoner escorted him to meet with Sir Beleg's entourage. Listening as Beleg spoke in the Elder Tongue did indeed remind him of whom he was dealing with, he had never sought to learn it himself, though he had suspicions that Lux spoke it, though the man would probably never tell him. Though, listening to the final thoughts of the Knight Commander in front of him, he thought a moment before answering. "My authority is granted by my title, much as yours is granted by your title and your lineage. I know what and who you are, and while I respect your power, I am not some child who knows nothing. Though, I suppose in your eyes, I would be young in years, I have experienced war, Knighthood, and earned my place as king through my acts. I have been nothing but respectful to you when you come to my kingdom, announced or otherwise. I have no ill will with Lord Ruzzoll, nor yourself. If those are not enough to gain at least the slightest courtesy from you, then Knights must have been trained differently in the century you were trained. I was trained to respect those in authority as a part of my knighthood. Whether I agreed with a king, or whether or not he was MY king, If I was in his land, I was to afford him the proper respect, especially in his own court room." Maybe Beleg felt he was superior to Heimdall from his age, or his power, or the position he was born into, but Heimdall was a king, and he felt he should be treated as so.

Lux remained silent through this exchange, instead opting to watch the two men dialogue. He was in his typical armor with his white Knight commander belt and spurs along with his twin blades strapped to his back. He had devoted a time of his life to learning the Elder Tongue as well as a few other of the older languages, so he understood what Beleg had said to the prisoner. He however, didn't care what happened to that filth, if it were up to him, he would eat him like he had the first, though the official story was that he hanged for his crimes, Lux was of an opinion that hanging was too good for those men. Listening to the other Knight-Commander speak, he found himself of a mind with Heimdall, being a close family friend, and the one to train heimdall himself, he agreed that the authority of a position such as Knight Commander, and especially one as revered as king, should afford someone at least showing the proper amount of respect that given title demands, and Heimdall had been very pleasant the entirety of the meeting which was good. With all this happening in his head, Lux remained as silent and stone faced as ever, not even letting a single twitch belay his inner musings.

Re: Open Hand, or Closed Fist? (Private, Heimdal and Lux)

Beleg stood for a moment, taking in Heimdal's answer and pondering how he should respond. It wasn't that he felt he had something over the King of Elagrid, and he felt that that was the most important thing he needed to get across. "I believe, then, that there is a misunderstanding. I have nothing but respect for you. I simply show it in the manner that I do because everyone, from the mightiest king to the poorest street-rat, is equal in my eyes. I am the eldest of the Seraphs,Nytos' firstborn and his heir, yet I feel nothing but joy when I work alongside my knights, or when I visit the orphanages and tell them stories over meals. Because of the respect I have for you, I treat you as my equal, and I will never treat you otherwise. I apologize if this is not what you are accustomed to. Ruzzoll himself was raised knowing of my stance, and has always tried to do the same."

Throwing the two a genuine smile, he spoke once more. "I genuinely hope my next visit to your court will be more pleasant, especially considering my next house call is in Ganenmarsh. That upstart, unlike you, Heimdal, has no respect from me, and never shall. In fact, I'm going to have to deliver yet another warning that his behavior is abhorrent, and that King Ruzzoll will not hesitate to pull out of our alliance if he continues to shirk his own duties to his people. Out of curiosity...Would you, by chance, be willing to back Ridbrad if everything goes south, and a war happens to come of this?"

While asked in a casual tone, it was as much of an olive branch as could ever be hoped for, especially after the incident that was dealt with earlier. An alliance, even if temporary, between arguably the two strongest Kingdoms would ensure that there would be no more unpleasantness, and that there would be as few casualties on both sides as possible. The trade that could occur would benefit both immensely, and it would improve the economies of both Kingdoms. The best part? All three in the room would know that Beleg had the full authority to speak for Ruzzoll in this matter, and would not have even brought it up had the Jolly Dwarf not suggested it had things gone well.

Re: Open Hand, or Closed Fist? (Private, Heimdal and Lux)

Nodding, Heimdall supposed that this would be the best answer he would have gotten from the man that many in the chapel felt was a deity in his own right. Things got much more serious with the following revelation and Heimdall closed his eyes as he listened to Beleg make his request. Getting involved in a war such as this would not bode well for his people, considering they had managed to stay out of the affairs of Ganenmarsh thus far, but given the collapsing alliance with Vandale, an alliance with Ridbrad made the most sense. The north and south, with a future neutral territory between them, or even a territory that would join their alliance after the war, this could be a unique opportunity to get on top of things. "I accept your request, and I shall begin making preparations. I will send Lux here with you to speak for me in discussions with your king, and then return with a full battle startegy to relay to me, hopefully including times of attack, attack patterns or specific targets and the like. Is that acceptable to you both?" He would say the last part looking between both Knight-Commanders. Lux was sensible enough, and powerful enough to take over for him and could be king for a long time, but he didn't seem to care about such things. "Yes, my lord." Was the simply response from the White Wolf. Looking back to Beleg, both men awaited his response. This would be the start of what would potentially be the most powerful alliance in all the kingdoms. Just the two, Elagrid and Ridbrad, could probably take on the combined might of the other three kingdoms, though this would be with heavy losses on both sides, but they could come out on top. Anyways, they simply waited for a response, Lux was already ready to go, he needed no time to pack or anything.

Nodding with a casual smile on his face, Beleg would turn to Lux and ask a simple question. "Shall we? I would assume you need your horse from the stables, and my own is waiting outside. If we get moving, we can likely reach Ganenmarsh within a few days, and then on to Ridbrad."

Having the other Knight-Commander along would be a blessing in disguise, Beleg mused as he walked out of the throne room, sending a short incline of the head to Heimdal. There was always a level of hostility in the Court of Ganenmarsh, and with the message he was being sent to deliver Beleg wouldn't doubt that Belanor would attempt to have them removed violently. While he had no doubt that he could handle any number of the fools, it would be better if the court guards had any reason to hesitate for more than a moment. As it stood, unless they truly believed in High Elven superiority, then they would probably run at the first sign of hostility from the two knights. Then again...Yeah, there was definitely going to be a fight ahead.
