Battle of Tonlas [PLOT ARC 1]

Post by Lux on Mon Apr 30, 2018 8:08 pm

Name: Battle of Tonlas
Rank: PLOT
Location: Ganenmarsh, Tonlas
Description: The allied forces received intelligence from their spies in Alurand that the town of Tonlas was manufacturing extra weaponry and magical items for the army of Ganenmarsh. The intel suggested they were using slave labor of the Dark Elves to do this. So, the Allied kings decided to sack the town to free the prisoner's and disrupt their manufacturing.
Rewards: 6,000 gold

Lux and the army of Elagrid gathered a mile outside of Tonlas for a very specific purpose and in a very specific formation. Lux himself was standing in the front of his army, with the battle-trolls in line behind him. The cavalry was positioned behind them, but would move ahead as soon as ordered. The knights and other soldiers were positioned behind the cavalry. They were currently waiting for Sir Beleg and their army to arrive to this designated meeting zone. This was it, the start of a war that was soon to become the shot heard throughout the land as it were. Lux, himself, was wearing light armor consisting of a silver mail with his twin blades strapped to his back. His hair pulled back into his standard ponytail. His yellow eyes scanned the town of Tonlas in the distance, knowing that the soldiers there were preparing for battle, it wouldn't be long now.

Strapping Vigilance's belt to his waist, Beleg stepped out of his command tent and greeted the soldiers they had brought for this initial battle. This early in the war, there weren't going to be many heavy hitters, as they would be saved in reserve. This made it a perfect opportunity to give the more inexperienced of their forces a taste for what was to come. There weren't many knights from either Elagrid or Ridbrad here, and those present were relatively newer and needed the practice in command. Still, the forces that they had brought practically ensured that there wouldn't be much difficulty.

Looking to the opposite side of the town of Tonlas, past the defenses, the Knight-Commander could almost see the forces of Elagrid waiting for his signal. Perfect.

Striding to the front of the lines, the Seraph stood and took a deep breath, savoring the moment, the calm before the storm, before raising a hand. As he did, fifty of the hundred longbowmen that stood on standby knocked an arrow, and judged distance, while the other fifty knocked and drew. Closing his fist, the first volley was fired on the enemy ramparts, marking the beginning of the battle.

It was devastating, as they were busy setting up for the assault of the infamous infantrymen from the opposing kingdoms. Hell, Beleg swore he saw one of the half-dozen elven mages burst into tears as an arrow punched through his spellbook. Bringing his fist down, the second volley was fired and cleared away the stragglers of the initial defense on their side.

Chuckling darkly, showing a side of the normally laid-back knight that many of his knights would never have guessed was there, the Seraph gave the order to advance, beginning a leisurely stroll towards the small village.

If the elves wanted to go to war with their closest allies, then they would not get Sir Beleg, the kind, caring Knight-Commander that could be found playing with the local children when he should be in a meeting. They would not get Sir Grimsever, the stern, indomitable veteran of countless battles.

They would get Raus Naedh, the very being who symbolized death and war in their own culture and stories.

They would face a brutal nightmare that no mortal has ever survived.

It was time the battle had officially begun with the initial strike happening. Lux maintained the grim expression on his face as he raised his own hand and then brought it down in a swinging motion, signaling the start of Elagrid's part in this attack. The few novice Alchemists present clapped their hands and slammed them on the ground, sending a thick fog into the air, covering a very large radius of the sky around them, as far as the eye could see, in black clouds. These did not stay on the ground, but raised into the sky and blocked the sun. This attack on the enemies morale was agreed upon based solely as to what would happen next. He never would have agreed to this if it weren't for the encouragement of his own king, king Ruzzoll and Sir Beleg. Letting out a grunt, his body would begin to morph, growing much larger than before, white fur sprouting everywhere around his body. His clothes magically stored away in a rune tattooed on his back, along with his weapons. His transformation complete, Lux now stood in his werewolf form, a massive, white, ten-foot-tall wolf-man. Letting out a ghastly howl that he knew could be heard from within the city of Tonlas, he started his charge. He and the trolls sped ahead of the infantry and then even the cavalry, he then started ahead of the trolls themselves. Vaulting to the top of the nearly thirty foot wall, he took to the streets below in the darkened city. Taking down nearly ten men and then destroying the gate controls, opening the main gate for the advancing army, everything was going according to plan. The city was swarming with activity and they seemed to have gotten over the initial shock from the attack and had prepared some minor countermeasures. The infantrymen were being sniped by archers as soon as they entered the city, but the sheer number of men entering made it impossible for the finite number of archers to totally devastate their ranks. There were casualties though. Lux made his way to one of the archery towers that held no less than four archers, beginning his climb, he would move to take them out.

Walking almost lazily through the hell that was a wartime engagement, Beleg ducked out of the way of an elf with some of the sloppiest sword work he had ever seen. Seriously, did he think that the plays shown in Alurand were actual combat? Grabbing the idiot by his collar, the Seraph swung him around to catch three arrows in his back before tossing his meat shield aside and narrowing his eyes on the towers filled with archers. Noticing Lux had already shifted and assaulted one of the two buildings, Beleg turned his attention to the one that had shot at him.

Drawing his trusted sword, the man disappeared from the naked eye before reappearing by the tower, having cut down three dozen infantrymen to make his way there. Bringing his blade across in a vicious backhanded slash, Beleg watched with an unreadable expression as the tower fell, the wake of his weapon slashing through the entire base of the tower. In order to ensure that the threat to his men was over, he brought his right foot up and slammed it down, causing a crater to form around him and the ground to shake as if there were an earthquake. Whatever remained of the tower and it's inhabitants were crushed to dust.

Looking up at a group of knights gawking at the display of power, the Seraph pointed a finger towards the slave pens. "Well, what are you waiting for? Get the dark elves to safety!"

It would seem that Beleg had taken down the other archery tower just as Lux had finished with his own. From the top of the tower, he could see over the entirety of the town with his enhanced eyesight. He immediately pinpointed the locations of the areas the dark elves were being held, but he also saw and heard Beleg order his men to take care of that in particular, which is all according to the plan. Letting out another gruesome howl, he would begin the second phase of the assault when the trolls and alchemists go in to destroy the weapons manufacturing plants. In total there were five in the town. Within the first minute after his command, three were destroyed, only smoldering ash remained in their stead. Jumping down to join the fray, Lux himself rushed towards one of the final two buildings, tearing his way inside and slaughtering anything that wasn't a dark elf. When he was finished, the alchemists arrived and turned the very foundation of the building into boiling lava, melting away the remainder of the weapons forged for the Ganenmarsh army. Lux would allow his transformation to subside as he approached Beleg when the fight was over, his cloths reappearing perfectly synchronized with his body's transformation. "Well, all things considered that didn't go horribly wrong. We lost a lot of good men though. I counted twenty of my base infantrymen gone and two who were among our cavalry. They are being gathered up as we speak." Sure enough, the remainder of both armies were either gathering their losses, tending the wounded or helping the dark elves, finding those willing to fight or aid in some way and letting them help with the recovery and aftermath of the battle.

Just having finished freeing another group of Dark Elves and dismembering those that enslaved them, Beleg turned with impassive eyes to see his squire-brother approach him, transforming back into his human form and speaking about the casualties. Nodding slightly, the Knight-Commander of Ridbrad spoke up. "We lost one squire and a dozen infantrymen. All in all, however, we killed one hundred and twenty of the elvish forces, including all but one of the mages stationed here. He evacuated, most likely to tell his king."

Turning back to the assembled group of soldiers and former slaves that wished to fight alongside them, Beleg would raise Vigilance as the black clouds faded, allowing for the sun to hit the blade and the destroyed town. "This marks the beginning of our fight against tyranny. Tonight, we rejoin our main forces. Those of you who wish to join our armies will be trained, and we shall celebrate our dead. We have time, now, before Belanor is capable of amassing an army of his own. We will use it to our advantage!"

And thus the atrocities of war began in thundering applause.
